Business people love throwing acronyms around because they presumably don't have the time to say the whole term - time is money after all.
But what does BMS actually mean?
Well, BMS stands for ‘Business Management System’ and the term is used to describe the tools a business would use for strategic planning and implementation of:
- Policies
- Practices
- Guidelines
- Processes
- Procedures
Obviously these are key to any organisation, but within a Business Management System, this allows companies to execute their business strategies and management plans. Companies then have the ability to manage workflow more effectively and to ensure efficiency is the name of the company game.

Your Business Management System exists solely to accomplish specific tasks and goals within different areas of your organisation such as Marketing, HR, Sales, IT, etc, and it’s essentially like shining a light on each corporate area and then suddenly being able to see every crack and every blemish so you can identify the things that need a good fixing.

If you need to do any of these things in your business, you should have some type of BMS software:
- Make critical decisions
- Identify and resolve pre-established problems company-wide
- Create solutions for problems that have not occurred yet.
- Employing business tactics.
Which Business Management System is Right for You?
Now that we have answered the question, 'what does bms mean?', we can look at a few different approaches to managing your business. Some will be right for you, others not so much. The important thing is finding the method that’s right for you at a price that doesn’t send moths flying out of your wallet.

Some companies get on fine with text based policies and procedures to manage their business systems and yet others require something a little bit more high-tech.
What’s the Alternative to This Approach?
That’s where we come in. At Triaster, we have spent years perfecting a business management software that takes a process approach.
Why do we do this? Well it’s a lot easier for our customers to use a one-stop-shop software which can direct you to the exact process you need, rather than fumbling about trying to find the right page in a manual.
Again, this may not be for you, but a process approach essentially exists to simplify your business processes and transform how you view what your organisation does into a series of inputs and outputs. Business Management Software (like the one we provide) tracks processes and thinks in terms of deliverables as in:
'what is this activity actually achieving at the end of the day?'.

Not only that, but after you have mapped out your processes in terms of ‘what is this task actually achieving?’ you’ll be able to track each task in terms of:
Time Spent + Activity Cost + Result Delivered = CalculatedValue to My Organisation.
Being able to calculate the time spent on a task, the cost of that task (in time and money) and the end result will hand you a value for each and every activity. This gives you a level of control and understanding of your business that's basically like coming home to a dark house and switching the lights on.
Whatever system you use to manage your business, it’s important to understand why you are doing what you are doing - what’s the point to it all? And let that question trickle down to every process until you're analysing not only the ‘why’, but the ‘what' of each process that makes up your business (it's important to establish what your processes actually are).
If you don’t have some sort of automated Business Management System in place, I would suggest that your business might not be doing as well as it could be. In the end though, It's up to you to decide if it's worth implementing one into your business framework.
